09/11/09 — Outfit #1

outfit1What I am wearing: a navy dress from Zara, dark red-violet tights, dark red-violet velvet shoes, chunky knit scarf, grey coat from Select, dark grey knit beret and my signature dark red Ray Ban glasses. Phew.

I have learned many things today.

Realisation number one: modelling is not as easy as others make it look. Usually I am photographed in my natural habitat (often devouring meat, dairy or alcoholic products) so being photographed for the sake of documentation is… unsettling. I became very aware that I was being photographed. And I felt very uncomfortable with that. I realise how painfully obvious this is in the photo, but I do not think the clothes are to blame. Or are they? You be the judge.

Realisation number two: The lighting in my house sucks. It has been raining all day, so I could not get decent light anywhere. As a result the colours are a little off. My tights, dress and shoes appear to be black. So use your imagination whilst I make some sacrifices to the sun gods. Hopefully my offerings of cheese and cheap white wine will please them.

Realisation number three: My house is wonky. I cropped out the ceiling as it is visibly bulging outwards and I did not want to alarm anybody. Like the council. Who might be scouring teh interwebz in search of condemned buildings. Yes.

Realisation number four: I am an artist. Who the hell says red-violet within the context of anything outside art? Which leads onto my last realisation…

Realisation number five: I am a colour geek. I am obsessed with how fashion has influenced our used of colour related language. For example, Elsa Schiaparelli invented shocking pink. I find that fascinating. And I want to know more colour names, or else I am going to keep saying things like red-violet. Got any for me?

I am so sorry I didn’t check for new posts earlier! Clearly I missed out. You look fabulous, seriously. ;)

I’m a COLOURlover, so my version of red-violet is some super créatif thing like ‘Velvet Dreams’. (I should get a job as a paint-colour namer. How much do you think it pays?)

Love your glasses and the whole oversized blazer look. By the way, did you forget to cite your jacket?

    Thank you :)

I love COLOURlovers for the made-up colour names. I would like to hope that there are professions in naming colours, because that sounds like my ideal job! Time to get searching methinks.

And yes, I did forget to cite the coat. It is from Select, which is a smallish chain of affordable teen/women’s clothes akin to New Look.
